Swellendam electoral barometer: What are voters saying ahead of the local elections?
Description
As the local government elections approach, we begin a series of conversations with people on the ground in municipalities across the Western Cape. First stop: Swellendam. Mickey Mentz, citizen journalist and editor of News62.co.za, joins Lester Kiewit to share what he is hearing and observing across Swellendam, Barrydale, Suurbraak and the wider Route 62 area. From service delivery and infrastructure to accountability, housing, jobs and local political dynamics, what issues are residents talking about and what do they want from the next municipal leadership? This is our first local electoral barometer, giving us a snapshot of the conversations happening beyond Cape Town.
