Finebaum Caller picks this week to Call Pete Golding a Clown | You're not going to believe his reasoning
Description
A Finebaum caller named this show, named the host, called Pete Golding a clown, and made exactly one checkable claim: that Golding couldn't get a pass rush with Will Anderson and Dallas Turner. That's the wrong hill. Will Anderson played three seasons in Golding's defense — 7.0 sacks in 2020, then 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss in 2021, then 10.0 more in 2022 — and won back-to-back Nagurski Trophies, back-to-back SEC Defensive Player of the Year awards and two unanimous All-American selections doing it. Dallas Turner's breakout was 2023, after Golding had already left for Oxford.
10 days to Vanderbilt. Bye week two of two, and the temperature outside this fanbase has gotten a long way ahead of the record.
Steven Willis plays the call in full, walks the Will Anderson years one season at a time, counts what seven career games actually look like, and then gets to a linebacker about to play a lot more and a Vanderbilt team nobody has updated their file on.

📌 THREE THINGS
1. Six of Pete Golding's seven career games as a head coach have come against ranked teams, and he is 4-2 in them. He beat No. 3 Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl and No. 7 LSU 32-24 in September. Both losses — Miami and Florida — are to teams sitting in the top ten this morning. And Saturday in Gainesville was the first true road game he has ever coached.
2. Tah'j Butler arrived from Georgia Tech in January, and spring was his first work in this system. He is not a project: 26 games over two seasons in Atlanta, 34 tackles and an interception last year. On3's Zach Berry graded Saturday and headlined that Butler had his best game yet — on the day the rest of that defense had its worst. A transfer doesn't arrive empty. He arrives with something to erase first.
3. Vanderbilt is starting a five-star true freshman at quarterback. Jared Curtis made his first career start against NC State, trailed 24-7 in the third quarter, and won it 35-31. The Commodores are 3-1, the lone loss at Auburn, and Clark Lea is in year six. Ole Miss should still be favored in Nashville. That is not the same thing as it handling itself.
