How good are Tottenham Hotspur podcasters at predicting the future?
In this episode, I put predictions from Spurs podcasts under the microscope, looking at their calls during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Which shows made the most accurate predictions? Which got things most spectacularly wrong? And which podcasters were the most positive about Tottenham?
I compare their prediction records with the implied probabilities from betting odds, the Opta supercomputer, and predictions from professional football pundits. Along the way, we’ll see how the different approaches stack up and whether the experts are actually any better at predicting football than the Spurs supporters behind the microphones.
Finally, I step back from the numbers to ask a bigger question: why do we make predictions about sport in the first place? What do we get from trying to predict something as inherently unpredictable as a football match and how much value should we really place on getting those predictions right?
