Episode Details

Houston Cougars fans voice frustration as the Big 12 schedules yet another 11 AM kickoff, despite Athletic Director Eddie Nunez’s request for a later start. Does this early time slot threaten the electric game-day atmosphere and the team’s potential to draw a prime audience on ESPN2? The conversation focused on how TV inventory decisions, competition from Houston Astros playoff games, and the cyclical nature of national ratings affect when and how the Houston Cougars play.

A key theme that emerged was the challenge of building fan engagement and game-day traditions amidst repeated early kickoffs. The discussion explored creative solutions like breakfast tailgates, morning Fan Fests, and leveraging Houston’s vibrant food scene to energize TDECU Stadium. Several points were raised, including the impact on travel for alumni, the need for a strong game-day culture, and whether this trend will hurt or ultimately help Houston secure future primetime slots. Should fans embrace the early hours and make 11 AM games a new tradition?
