Houston Cougars face mounting questions as Willie Fritz addresses defensive inconsistency—can the team tighten up before tougher Big 12 matchups? Conner Weigman’s breakout season continues, with the quarterback boasting 14 touchdowns and a league-leading completion rate, fueling hopes for major awards. Are the Cougars on the verge of unlocking a new offensive ceiling?

The conversation focused on Houston’s defensive hot-and-cold performances, schemes under Austin Armstrong, and the impact of recent roster investments. One concept discussed was the need for more turnovers and fewer sustained drives against potent offenses like Oklahoma State and Utah. The discussion explored UCF’s disciplined defense and whether the Cougars’ own mistakes could be their downfall. Several points were raised, including Wegman’s leadership, the potential to shift focus to defensive upgrades, and what it will take to secure that crucial first Big 12 win.
