1902 JEWS OF YEMEN
Houthi Offensives Escalating Across Yemen
Bridget Toomey discusses the intensifying Houthi military offensives across Yemen, specifically targeting the strategic Taiz governorate. After seizing coastal territory down to the Bab el-Mandeb strait, Houthi forces are pushing into mountainous highlands to encircle Taiz city and cut off key supply roads. Toomey explains that Houthi advances are enabled by deep divisions among eight anti-Houthi coalition factions, Houthi control of national telecommunications infrastructure, and extensive Iranian operational support. By moving resources onto coastal islands and isolating government forces, the Houthis ultimately aim to encircle Aden and solidify single-party rule over all of Yemen. (6)
