September 28 | Here I Am
Description
Today’s reading from Isaiah 5–6 and Ephesians 1 invites us to reflect on calling, identity, and what it means to become increasingly available to God over time. Both passages remind us that God’s work in our lives begins with who He is and who we are becoming in response to Him.
In Isaiah, the death of King Uzziah marks the end of a long period of stability, yet Isaiah sees that God remains firmly on His throne. His encounter with God’s holiness leads first to humility and cleansing, and then to a willingness to respond when God asks who will go.
In Ephesians, Paul reminds believers that God has chosen them in Christ and brought them into His purposes by grace. Calling grows out of identity, and awareness of what God has already done begins shaping how we understand the life we have been given.
Together, these passages invite us to notice how God may already be forming desires, gifts, convictions, and opportunities within us. Rather than waiting for a dramatic moment, we can reflect on whether our hearts are becoming increasingly willing to say, “Here I am.”
