In this episode of 9–5 Exit Plan, I sit down with Dean Weitenhagen to discuss an extraordinary journey through love, adversity, survival, and the search for purpose.

After his partner Patsy suffered a debilitating stroke, Dean travelled with her to China in search of treatment and hope. Soon afterwards, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Following treatment, his cancer returned, and he eventually received a stem cell transplant from a donor.

During his long hospital stay, Dean found himself reflecting on the life he had lived, the expectations he had tried to meet, and the question that became central to his journey: Why are we here?

We discuss love, resilience, family values, life’s unexpected challenges, and how profound experiences can change the way we understand success and meaning.
