He Took a 3-Week Trip to Thailand—Then Quit His Corporate Career and Never Looked Back | Bill Mullen
Description
What happens when a three-week vacation makes you question the life you’ve been building?
Bill Mullen, better known to travelers as “Bangkok Bill,” spent years working in corporate leadership before deciding that the life he was living wasn’t the life he wanted. He describes the work as a grind and says he felt he was making other people rich rather than building the life he had envisioned for himself.
Then he finally went to Thailand.
What began as an “epic” three-week vacation became the turning point. When Bill returned to the United States, he walked into his boss’s office and gave three months’ notice. His plan was to sell his possessions, move to Thailand, and start a different kind of life.
That was eight years ago.
Today, Bill talks about Thailand through the lens of exploration rather than simply tourism. He shares stories from his travels, explains why he believes travelers can miss a great deal by following conventional itineraries, and describes the experiences behind his Thailand Adventure Network, podcast, expeditions, and book, Getting Lost in the Magic of Thailand: Island Hopping Down the Siam Spice Route.
We explore solo travel, getting beyond tourist zones, cultural immersion, finding hidden places, clarity, working backward from a five-year vision, overcoming obstacles, and the idea that sometimes the most important question isn’t “How do I do this?” but “Who knows how to help me do this?”
For Bill, the journey ultimately became more than travel.
It became his calling.
