Description
Auburn Football found a way to finish.
That might be the biggest takeaway after Auburn's 21 to 15 victory over Vanderbilt. It wasn't always pretty. There are still plenty of questions about this offense, and the schedule is about to get much tougher. But Auburn is 3 and 1, the Vanderbilt losing streak is over, and the Tigers finished a football game that felt like the type of game Auburn might have given away a season ago.
That's progress.
One of the biggest positives was seeing Xavier Atkins flying around the field again. After being noticeably quiet against Florida, Atkins looked much more like the impact linebacker Auburn expects him to be. There was some concern about his health during the game, so seeing him return in the second half and continue making plays was encouraging.
Cody Sigler also continues to demand attention along Auburn's defensive front. Vanderbilt had to account for him throughout the afternoon, and having someone in the middle who can command that kind of attention can create opportunities for everybody else.
The defense still has something it absolutely must fix.
