The New York Islanders fell 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils, dropping their record to 1-3-0. Simon Holmstrom scored the lone goal for NYI, while Bo Horvat added an assist. With Mathew Barzal sidelined for two weeks and multiple defensive injuries, the Islanders struggled with neutral-zone coverage and special teams. Luke Evangelista and Evan Rodrigues led New Jersey with multi-point performances. We analyze the defensive breakdown, the lack of offensive depth, and what this means for the upcoming schedule.
