The Haunted House Beside One of Korea's Bloodiest Forgotten Battlefields - YEONGDEOK HYUNGGA

Description

The Yeongdeok Haunted House, or Yeongdeok Hyungga, is one of South Korea’s most infamous abandoned locations. Standing near Jangsa Beach, the decaying house has inspired stories of apparitions, strange noises, possession and visitors who claim something followed them home.

One terrifying legend follows two friends, Gong and Cheol, who entered the property after reading about its haunted reputation. Inside, Cheol allegedly encountered a mirror reflection that moved on its own, while Gong later experienced an invisible presence grabbing his ankle. A Korean shaman would eventually tell Gong that multiple spirits had followed him from the house.

Behind the folklore is a very real tragedy. The nearby Jangsa coast was the site of a devastating Korean War operation involving hundreds of young student soldiers, giving Yeongdeok’s most notorious haunted house an especially unsettling history.
