Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley — Chapter 13

Spring transforms the world around the cottage, and an unexpected visitor transforms the household with it. Safie’s arrival brings Felix sudden joy, while the Creature quietly discovers that her lessons in language can become his own path toward understanding.

As he learns words, letters, history, society, and the bonds that connect human beings, knowledge opens an extraordinary new world to him. Yet every new insight also forces him to confront his own isolation and ask, with growing anguish, where he belongs among humankind.
