Back to EpisodesPsalm 78: What To Teach The Next Generation
Description
Forgetfulness is never neutral. Psalm 78 shows how quickly a people can watch miracles and still drift into complaining, craving, and rebellion, and it forces a personal question: what are we teaching the next generation to remember? I walk through this long, vivid psalm as a practical Bible study, pulling out the values worth passing down and the warnings we can’t afford to ignore.
We listen to Israel’s story like a mirror. God splits the sea, leads by cloud and fire, provides water from the rock and manna from heaven, and still the pattern repeats: God stays faithful, people wander, consequences follow, and repentance shows up too late. Psalm 78 doesn’t soften any of it, but it also refuses despair. God holds back His anger, remembers human weakness, and keeps coming back for His people. That tension between accountability and mercy becomes the heart of the message.
Then we bring it home. If you’re a parent, a mentor, a small group leader, or simply someone with younger people in your world, this is about spiritual legacy and Christian discipleship. We talk about why “vision is more caught than taught,” why we must speak on purpose, and why the most transferable lesson might be this: don’t quit getting back up. God will be faithful, and we learn to be faithful back.
