If you were to ever search for the biggest bank heist in history, you would find that every list puts the Iraq Central Bank heist of 2003 at number 1.

Essentially Saddam Hussein had his son walk into the bank on the eve of the US invasion with a note signed by the dictator ordering them to give him one billion dollars. And they did. Because when the dictator of your country tells you to do something, you do it, or else...

But should this really be considered the biggest bank heist of all time? After all, the thing with dictators is that they have absolute power and ownership over everything in their country. So did Saddam Hussein really steal that money?

Regardless, we started looking at other heists and hours later down the rabbit hole we found one that mysteriously doesn’t appear in any internet list, YouTube video, or documentary. And yet, not only does the total amount stolen dwarf ANY heist in history, it has all the makings of a thrilling summer blockbuster. Action, suspense, betrayal, even an international government coverup! … and it all started, with one young man and a knife.
