Episode Details

What happens when a lifetime of music, memories, and a few stories that probably should have stayed at the bar become a musical? You get After All These Years: The Musicals of Al Tapper!

Composer, lyricist, and producer Al Tapper joins Robert Bannon on The Roundtable to celebrate his new Off-Broadway production, now playing at AMT Theater in New York City.

Part concert, part comedy, and part affectionate roast, After All These Years takes audiences on a musical journey through Tapper's extraordinary life, from first loves and show-business dreams to political satire, romantic misadventures, and plenty of laughs along the way. With Tapper appearing on screen and a live cast bringing his songs to life, the production offers a funny, heartfelt, and wonderfully unconventional look at the man behind the music.

Tapper's career includes eleven musicals, hundreds of songs, and acclaimed documentary films including Broadway: The Golden Age, By the Legends Who Were There and Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy. And yes, he even invented that little tab on your coffee cup lid!

Robert and Al chat about the inspiration behind the new show, the stories that shaped his remarkable career, and what it means to finally put his own life center stage.

After All These Years: The Musicals of Al Tapper is directed by Brian Childers and stars Lara Allison, Emily Taylor Kaufman, Dan Olson, and Nathan Pecchia. The production plays a limited engagement at AMT Theater through October 10, 2026.
