Description

Today’s reading from Song of Solomon 6–8 and Galatians 4 invites us to think about belonging, love, identity, and the relationships that shape us over time. Both passages remind us that who we are is formed in relationship, through love that is received, trusted, and lived rather than simply discussed.

In Song of Solomon, love is expressed through desire, commitment, delight, and belonging. The relationship is personal and covenantal, and the language reflects the security that develops when love is known and shared. The passage reminds us that faithful love creates a place of belonging where identity is strengthened rather than constantly questioned.

In Galatians 4, Paul tells believers that through Christ they are no longer slaves but children of God and therefore heirs. Their relationship with God is not built on earning acceptance through the Law but on receiving adoption through Christ and living by the Spirit as sons and daughters who can call God “Abba, Father.”

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what it means to live from a place of belonging. They ask us to notice whether we are still trying to earn what has already been given and to consider how deeply the identity of being loved, received, and formed by God has settled into the way we live.
