Man buys entire California ghost town for less than $2 million

US man Brent Underwood has purchased Cerro Gordo, an 1865 silver mining settlement in California, for less than $2 million and now lives as the town's only resident. The 145ha property features about 20 buildings from the 1800s in various states of disrepair, plus almost 50km of mine shafts beneath the town where Underwood has discovered artefacts including original Levi Strauss jeans from 1873, love letters, and mining documents. He is gradually restoring the ghost town, located three hours from both Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and plans to open a hotel, bar and restaurant for visitors.
