Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley — Chapter 7

A letter from Victor’s father summons him home with devastating news: his young brother William has been murdered. As Victor journeys toward Geneva, familiar mountains and the tranquil lake offer only temporary relief from his grief and growing dread.

Outside the city during a violent storm, Victor catches sight of the being he created and becomes convinced that it is responsible for William’s death. Yet when he finally reaches his family, he learns that another person—Justine Moritz—has already been accused and is soon to stand trial.
