September 24 | Discerning Deception
Description
Today’s reading from Song of Solomon 4–5 and Galatians 3 invites us to consider how our hearts and minds are formed by what we trust, receive, and believe over time. Both passages remind us that relationships are shaped through attention, response, and the ways we learn to recognize what is true and valuable.
In Song of Solomon, we see the continuing rhythm of love, desire, presence, and response between two people. Their relationship reminds us that love develops through attention and recognition, and that identity is strengthened as people learn to see and receive one another with care.
In Galatians, Paul confronts believers whose thinking has begun to move away from the message they originally received. They had experienced the Spirit through faith, yet they were becoming convinced that what God began through faith now had to be completed through human effort. Paul calls them back to awareness of what God had already made clear.
Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what has been shaping our thinking and our relationships. They encourage us to notice the voices, assumptions, and messages we repeatedly receive, and to consider whether those influences are helping us remain grounded in truth or quietly moving us away from it.
