Iran Crisis Expands Across Region
In a new development in the Middle East, President Donald Trump said he is pausing a planned attack on Iran to give negotiations a chance. That update landed at the same time as several other pressure points: Saudi airstrikes reportedly hit Yemen's port city of Mokha, killing at least six people; the U.S. Treasury secretary said Iranian commercial airlines would shut down globally beginning Wednesday; and the United States reportedly denied visas to some members of the Iranian president's UN delegation. Add in a gas tanker struck by debris in the Strait of Hormuz, and the picture is clear: even without an immediate U.S. strike, the region remains highly unstable, with possible consequences for shipping, diplomacy, and energy prices.
