Salesforce Rewrites 20,000 Jobs Around AI
Description
SALESFORCE AI JOBS 2026: Salesforce says nearly 20,000 existing employees are now working in roles that did not exist 12 months ago as the company reorganizes work around AI agents. At Dreamforce on September 16, Salesforce President and Chief People Officer Nathalie Scardino described a workforce strategy built around redesigning jobs, reskilling employees, redeploying talent and rebalancing work between humans and AI. This is not 20,000 layoffs and not 20,000 new hires. It is a large-scale rewrite of what thousands of existing Salesforce jobs actually are.
Salesforce says every job is being reconsidered. Customer-support employees have already been moved into roles such as forward-deployed engineering as Agentforce handles more routine interactions. Salesforce is also creating “agentic manager” roles in which employees supervise both humans and AI agents. The company describes the strategy as the 4Rs: redesign, reskill, redeploy and rebalance.
The clearest capacity signal may be inside Salesforce HR. According to reporting from the Dreamforce briefing, roughly 150 employee processes have been consolidated into 12 agentic journeys. Salesforce receives about 4 million employee inquiries each year and is targeting only 25,000 to require human intervention by year-end. That does not confirm HR layoffs. It does show how dramatically human workload can shrink when routine questions, routing, documentation and resolution move into automated or AI-assisted workflows.
Salesforce has also told investors it is becoming a “lean agentic enterprise.” The bigger worker story is therefore not simply AI replacing jobs. Salesforce is showing another model: keep the employee, automate much of the old work, rewrite the role, require new AI skills and redeploy the worker somewhere else. The person may stay while the old job description disappears.
For workers following Salesforce layoffs 2026, Salesforce job cuts, Agentforce, AI jobs and tech layoffs, this episode separates confirmed facts from workforce-pressure signals. The Grind Hotline also covers Microsoft layoffs, Google layoffs, Amazon layoffs, Meta layoffs, Oracle layoffs, Dell layoffs, IBM layoffs, PayPal layoffs and other major employers, tracking confirmed cuts alongside restructuring, hiring freezes, no backfill, outsourcing, offshoring, AI automation and role consolidation.
Source basis: Salesforce workforce and Agentforce materials; Salesforce FY2026 proxy materials filed with the SEC; and September 16, 2026 reporting from the Dreamforce “Radical Redesign of Work” briefing. The nearly 20,000 figure refers to existing employees in newly designed roles, not confirmed layoffs or new hires.
