Back to EpisodesRaff's Brain #255: HOT YOGA PROBLEMS - The Eagle Pose Sucks, But the Eagles Do Not
Description
Raff just finished Day 4 of consecutive hot yoga, and the evidence is becoming difficult to ignore: evening Raff may be significantly better at yoga than 6 a.m. Raff.
That realization creates an inconvenient dilemma. Early classes fit the schedule and offer plenty of breathing room. Evening classes are packed. But after a full day of working, thinking, talking, eating, and generally becoming a functional human being, Raff feels stronger, sharper, and far more capable in the studio.
Naturally, this scientific breakthrough is immediately interrupted by Eagle pose.
Raff can’t do it. He doesn’t like it. And mentioning the Eagle sends the episode careening into the Eagles, The Big Lebowski, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and one of the more unnecessary defenses of a classic rock band ever delivered from a car after yoga.
But underneath the detours is something real.
During lunch, Raff mentions that he’s trying to lose weight. A colleague congratulates him—not for reaching some future goal, but for making the effort in the first place.
That idea sticks.
Maybe progress doesn’t always deserve celebration only after the finish line. Maybe there’s something worth respecting about showing up, attempting something difficult, and taking another swing—even when there’s no guarantee you’ll succeed.
