Lauren Ambrose is back on the New York stage — and we’re talking all about it on The Roundtable!

Tony Award winner Lauren Ambrose leads the cast of THE UNBELIEVERS, a poignant, funny, and deeply human new play from Tony and Olivier Award-nominated playwright Nick Payne, directed by Tony nominee Knud Adams.

Ambrose stars as Miriam, a mother living with the unimaginable: the unexplained disappearance of her teenage son. As the years pass without answers, Miriam, David, and their blended family are left to navigate an altered world — figuring out how to keep loving, laughing, hoping, and simply living when closure may never come.

We’re talking with Lauren about stepping into this extraordinary new role, finding the humor inside heartbreak, working with Nick Payne and Knud Adams, and what it means to return to the New York stage with a brand-new play.

From her Emmy-nominated work as Claire Fisher on Six Feet Under to Yellowjackets, Servant, and her Tony-winning performance as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Lauren Ambrose has built a career filled with unforgettable, beautifully complicated women. Now, she takes on Miriam — a woman forced to discover what faith and hope mean when certainty is impossible.

THE UNBELIEVERS also features Jaspal Binning, Brittany Bradford, Jack DiFalco, Marjan Neshat, Tom Riley, Nina Ross, Hadi Tabbal, and Elizabeth Yeoman.

Performances begin October 13, 2026, Off-Broadway at New York City Center Stage I.

It’s Lauren Ambrose on The Roundtable — and you know we have plenty to talk about!
