What if the biggest limitation of AI isn’t its ability to generate answers—but its inability to remember why those answers matter?

Ben Finklea is a longtime marketing leader, entrepreneur, former marketing agency owner, and fractional CMO who has spent much of his career helping businesses grow. In this conversation, he explains why he believes context may be more important than increasingly sophisticated prompting.

Ben makes a distinction between a prompt and context: a prompt is the instruction, while context is the story behind the instruction. Without that history, he argues, an AI can produce a technically good answer without understanding the decisions, relationships, commitments, preferences, and reasons behind the work.

That idea led Ben to create ArmBrain, an AI memory platform designed around retaining and retrieving the context surrounding professional work.

We explore what useful AI memory might require, why provenance and recency matter, how an AI could recognize changing priorities and emotional signals, and why simply storing information isn’t enough if the system doesn’t know what information matters at a particular moment.

Ben also shares the personal experience that helped inspire ArmBrain: a day when ChatGPT helped him prioritize seven competing tasks, followed by the realization that the same approach broke down when he gave the AI a much larger list without enough context.
