What happens when your calling, career, ministry, or ambition begins competing with your family?

In this episode of With Love, The Chambers, we revisit a powerful question raised during our conversation with Apostle Sherman Dumas:

How do we pursue what we're called to do without sacrificing our children on the altar of ministry, work, or ambition?

Now that we've reached a different stage of parenting—and recently dropped our youngest daughter off at college—we're realizing just how quickly those years pass. The time we have to shape, support, encourage, and simply be present with our children is much shorter than it feels while we're living it.

We talk candidly about seasons when ministry consumed much of our lives, the decisions we eventually made to shift our priorities, and why we stopped thinking about life as achieving perfect balance and started thinking about diversifying our time according to the season we're in.

We also unpack an important lesson Rufus learned along the way: serving God and doing ministry are not the same thing. Our relationship with God comes first, but that doesn't mean church or ministry should automatically take priority over our spouse, children, health, and responsibilities at home.

Ultimately, this conversation is about identifying your family's North Star—and having the courage to organize your life around it, even when other people don't understand your choices.

Because careers change. Opportunities come and go. Ministry assignments change.

But the season of raising your children is incredibly short.
