Description

In this off-the-rails episode of Under the Docs, Paranoid American and Uncle Sean dive into the 2009 documentary The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia, directed by Julien Nitzberg.

The film follows the notorious White family of Boone County, West Virginia, over the course of a year, offering an unfiltered look at a family and community caught between poverty, addiction, violence, outlaw culture, and a changing coal-country way of life.

From mountain dance floors and drug deals to shoot-outs, hospital beds, family drama, and everything in between, the documentary doesn't pull many punches.

Paranoid American and Uncle Sean break down the documentary, the people at the center of it, and the uncomfortable questions it raises about poverty, addiction, family, culture, and the line between documenting someone's life and turning that life into entertainment.

What happens when survival becomes spectacle?

Join Paranoid American and Uncle Sean as they take a deep dive into one of the most chaotic and controversial documentaries to come out of Appalachia.
