A single sentence can sound wise and still steer your life off a cliff: “God helps those who help themselves.” We open Genesis 16 and watch Sarai and Abram do what so many of us feel tempted to do under pressure, take control, speed up the timeline, and manufacture an outcome that God never asked for.

As we read the story verse by verse, we sit with the real anguish of infertility, the longing behind Sarai’s decision, and the painful power imbalance Hagar endures. Then the scene shifts to the wilderness, where everything gets quiet and personal. God finds Hagar by a spring, calls her by name, and reveals Himself as El Roi, the God who sees. That name becomes the hinge of the message: God sees the overlooked, God hears the desperate, and God stays faithful even when our shortcuts create chaos. We close with a challenge from Hebrews 6:12, to inherit God’s promises through faith and patience, not panic.
