Shaquille O’Neal is facing backlash after appearing on stage with FBI Director Kash Patel and accepting an honorary FBI credential during an event where Shaq was reportedly helping provide meals to hundreds of law enforcement officers.

But for many people, the bigger issue is Kash Patel himself. Patel remains a highly controversial figure, over criticism surrounding the Trump administration’s handling and release of records connected to Jeffrey Epstein. So when Shaq stood alongside Patel and accepted the honor, some longtime supporters questioned why he would associate himself with him.

But I think Shaq made this situation 10 times worse with the way he responded to the criticism.

Instead of simply getting on Instagram and saying, “I hear you. I understand why some of my supporters are upset. My appearance wasn’t about supporting Kash Patel politically. I was there because I support law enforcement,” Shaq went after the people criticizing him.

When OG Matt called him out, Shaq responded by talking about Matt’s house. Shaq also went after another content creator, insulting his page and saying he lives at his mother’s house.

What does someone’s house, apartment or living situation have to do with the argument they’re making?

These are the same everyday people who helped make Shaq who he is today. This could have been an opportunity for Shaq to listen to his supporters, explain himself and show some humility. Instead, in my opinion, those two content creators showed more integrity in that exchange than Shaq did with his response.

Today we’re breaking down what happened with Shaq and Kash Patel, why people are upset, and why Shaq’s response may have turned a controversy into an even bigger one.
