Description

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, please send me a witch voice note.

The TopCat AI Signal Report Sunday Edition

That’s not inherently sinister.

If every AI developer has to navigate contradictory rules, enormous compliance costs can favor the largest companies and make it harder for smaller builders to participate. That’s a real governance concern.

And there is an interesting wrinkle: even the current U.S. approach isn’t simply “no governance.” A June 2026 executive order calls for collaboration between government and AI developers around advanced models, cybersecurity, and national security, while explicitly rejecting mandatory government licensing or preclearance for releasing AI models.

So I’d separate:

“Don’t regulate AI badly.”

from

“Don’t govern AI at all.”

Those are very different propositions.
