Filmmakers Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado join Popcorn Podcast to talk their new animated film, Forgotten Island. When the two began thinking about writing and directing an original film, they found their way to a story shaped by Filipino culture, mythology and family. Together, they saw an opportunity to build a film from a culture that had shaped both of their lives in intimate ways. Thus was born, Forgotten Island. In our chat, the filmmakers share how crucial the opening of the film was, how they embraced Tayo na creatively, and how they chose to pay homage to the films that inspired them in Forgotten Island.
