Description

John V. Thompson Jr., a quiet giant of a man who lived 91 years with unwavering love and grit, passed away at home, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his family, community, and hard work. Married to Linda for 72 years, he built a life of purpose—from laying steel for the first nuclear submarine to owning a business and still driving cars in retirement. A devoted coach, church member, and even a King Mackerel tournament winner, John found joy in fishing, golf, and cheering for UNC. His greatest triumph? Being the steady, generous heart of his family—never seeking praise, but leaving an indelible mark. His memorial service is Friday, Sept. 25, at 2 PM at Winter Park Baptist Church.
