The New York Islanders face the New Jersey Devils on September 20th with Mathew Barzal sidelined for two weeks. We analyze how the nine-center roster construction impacts line combinations against a physical Devils team. Key players include Bo Horvat, Anthony Duclair, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau as they navigate special teams and neutral-zone play without their leading scorer.
This preview covers the strategic implications of Barzal's absence, potential line matchups involving Kyle MacLean and Calum Ritchie, and defensive pairings featuring Scott Mayfield and Adam Pelech. We also discuss the impact of new ownership David Shuman and the fan-favorite Navy Lighthouse jersey design on team morale and momentum heading into the Metropolitan Division clash.
Our analysts break down keys to the game including neutral-zone pressure and special teams efficiency. Predictions range from a gritty 3-2 Islanders win to a 4-3 Devils victory based on transition play. Tune in for expert commentary on the Islanders' path to success in the upcoming preseason matchup.
