When should Christians obey the government—and when is civil disobedience justified? In this episode, Joseph Backholm is joined by Dr. David Closson, Director of the Center for Biblical Worldview at the Family Research Council, to examine what Scripture teaches about government authority, obedience, and resistance. David offers a three-part framework for thinking through civil disobedience, including what happens when government commands what God forbids, forbids what God commands, or oversteps into authority God has given to institutions like the church and family. They explore examples ranging from COVID-era mandates and government restrictions to religious liberty and the responsibilities Christians have even under governments they disagree with. Ultimately, the conversation challenges Christians to approach authority with humility, wisdom, and a desire to follow God’s will rather than simply finding justification to do what they want.
