CRIME: The Murder That Started World War I: Franz Ferdinand
Description
On June 28th, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, was shot and killed alongside his wife on the streets of Sarajevo by a young nationalist named Gavrilo Princip. The assassination was the work of a shadowy network of secret societies bent on breaking apart the empire, and within weeks, it plunged the world into the catastrophe of World War I. A single act of violence had toppled the fragile balance of power holding Europe together. In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson examines the assassination that changed the course of history, the secret nationalist movements operating in the shadows, and the way one attack on a royal heir set off a chain reaction that reshaped the entire world.
