Why Ole Miss BEATS LSU — 3 Reasons, 3 Keys, Final Score

Episode 3025 Published 1 week, 6 days ago
Description

Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU this week has been about Lane Kiffin and the crowd. That's the wrong line. LSU's quarterback room has two touchdown passes and five rushing touchdowns, and Blake Baker's defense has spent two games against pocket passers and nothing else. Trinidad Chambliss is not a pocket passer, and the designed quarterback run Ole Miss has not shown all year is the one thing LSU has no film to prepare for.

One day to LSU. College GameDay is in the Grove.

Steven Willis stops surveying and picks a side: three reasons Ole Miss wins, three keys, three names, an X-factor nobody has mentioned all week, and a final score. Lane Kiffin stood at his own podium this week and admitted the coaching familiarity favors Ole Miss — then volunteered the receipt that proves it.

📌 THREE THINGS

1. The headset ran one direction for three years. Kiffin says what bothers him out loud, over the headset, in real time, and Golding stood on the other end of it for three of Kiffin's six years. Coordinators never send it back up. Kiffin admitted it himself this week: "Pete sat there for the years we were together and heard me say exactly what we don't like to play against."

2. Two plays are still in the drawer with no film on either. No designed quarterback keeper all season, no jet sweep at all. LSU's front has had a free release all year because nobody made them count the quarterback as a runner; the moment Chambliss can keep it, a defender leaves the box for free. Todd Wade said on this show to put him in empty and run it anyway, for the box count.

3. LSU is first in the conference in yards allowed, and that number is hollow. It was built against Clemson, who then scored one touchdown on Georgia Southern, and Louisiana Tech, who hung eighty the week before on a team that allowed forty-two to an NAIA school. Ole Miss has been punched and knows where its soft spot is. LSU has not, and finds out live, at night, in Oxford.
