Description
This educational reader, titled Danger on Misty Mountain, follows a family’s adventurous hiking trip to the Scottish Highlands. The story begins with Simon and Sarah convincing their father to take them on a mountain-walking holiday while their mother is away for work. Upon arriving at the Misty Mountain Hostel, the group prepares for their trek by learning essential safety skills, such as map reading and using a compass. However, the excursion turns perilous when a thick mist rolls in, causing their father to fall and injure his ankle. The children must demonstrate immense bravery and resourcefulness as they navigate landslides, harsh weather, and flooded rivers to find help. Through this narrative, the book teaches young readers about wilderness survival, the unpredictability of nature, and the importance of proper equipment.
