๐Ÿงพ LSU Has To Justify Its Existence. Ole Miss Doesn't.| Locked on CFB

Episode 3019 Published 2ย weeks ago
Description

Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU this week has been about whether the Rebels can handle the moment. That's the wrong question. Ole Miss has been playing defense for nine months โ€” all of this happened to them, and their only job since December has been to keep winning. LSU is the program that has to justify its existence on Saturday night.

Three days to LSU. Two days to Miami at Wake Forest.

Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Steven Willis of Locked On Ole Miss to break down where the pressure in this top-ten matchup actually sits, why the Rebels' defensive busts are the one thing that ends their night, and the advantage Ole Miss gets for free just by being loud. Then Alex Donno joins for a Friday-night ACC upset alert as Miami travels to a nearly sold-out Wake Forest blackout.

๐Ÿ“Œ THREE THINGS
1. Ole Miss has been playing defense for nine months. In Steven Willis's framing, all of this happened to the Rebels โ€” they were the victim in the situation, and their entire job since December has been to keep the Ferrari on the road. LSU is the one that has to justify its existence: national-championship team or not, coach worth the contract, roster worth the price. None of it is answered, and Saturday is the first time anybody gets to check the receipt.
2. The asymmetry decides the week. Ole Miss can lose this football game and still be a 2-0 top-ten team in the playoff conversation Sunday morning. LSU cannot. That is why the pressure sits where it sits, regardless of ranking or point spread.
3. The busts are the whole game. Against Louisville, Ole Miss gave up twelve busted plays for over three hundred yards โ€” that game was only a game because of them. Willis: do that against LSU and "it's not even a competition in that realm." Pete Golding has now described the same unsolved problem two weeks running: an angle issue, players overrunning the football, no gap control.
