Episode Details

Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is walking back controversial past comments as his race against Ken Paxton intensifies, including remarks suggesting the U.S. is “backsliding” on democracy and calling for Western European models — a clip that even Elon Musk noticed. His campaign insists he’s a devout Christian who champions America and Texas as the greatest, clarifying that his critiques of faith are about its misuse, not belief itself. Other flashpoints include calling himself a Christian who “hates Christianity,” claiming God is nonbinary, and describing the American flag as “complicated.” His team defends each as symbolic of freedom and hope. With the race tightening, these moments are becoming political landmines — classic campaign tactics in a state where every word counts.
