Ed Sheeran made a statement after dropping Macklemore from his Loop Tour, and his response may have made an already bad situation 10 times worse.

The backlash is now reaching Washington. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC, says she’ll change the channel if Ed Sheeran comes on the radio, while criticizing the pressure that led to Macklemore being removed from the tour.

And it doesn’t stop there.

Every supporting act scheduled for Ed’s upcoming tour dates has now walked away. Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham and FINNEAS have all withdrawn, along with Ed Sheeran’s longtime backing band Beoga, in solidarity with Macklemore and in opposition to what they view as the silencing of artists speaking about Palestine.

For those who missed yesterday’s video, Macklemore says New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who also owns Gillette Stadium, helped pressure Ed Sheeran’s tour over Macklemore’s pro-Palestine statements. Tour promoter Messina Touring Group confirmed that multiple venues said they would not allow the concerts to proceed with Macklemore on the lineup.

Instead of accepting responsibility for the decision, Ed Sheeran released a statement saying Macklemore’s removal was the promoter’s decision and not his. Ed says he tried to find a solution but ultimately would not cancel the tour and affect the fans, crew, musicians and others who rely on the tour for work.

But that explanation has not stopped the backlash. Now his opening acts and backing band are walking away, AOC is publicly criticizing what happened, and the controversy surrounding Ed Sheeran’s decision is getting bigger.

In this video, we’re breaking down Ed Sheeran’s statement, AOC’s response, Robert Kraft’s involvement and why Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham, FINNEAS and Beoga have all decided they will no longer continue on the tour.
