166: The Last Hike of Karen Sykes

Published 21 hours ago
Description
Karen Sykes had spent years exploring Washington’s trails, writing about them, photographing them, and encouraging countless others to experience the outdoors for themselves. At 70 years old, she was still an incredibly strong and experienced hiker. But in June of 2014, a hike in Mount Rainier National Park would take her into snowy terrain where even decades of experience couldn’t guarantee a safe return.
