The Leadership Blind Spot: Do You Need to Be Right, Liked, or in Control?

Episode 373 Published 16 hours ago
Description

Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!

What if the biggest obstacle to your leadership isn’t your strategy, your team, or the complexity of your organization—but something you can’t see in yourself?

In this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT, we welcome Eric Kaufmann, founder and Managing Partner of Sagatica, an executive coaching and leadership development firm he has led since 1999. Eric has spent more than 25 years coaching C-suite executives and leadership teams and is a Thought Leader at Harvard’s Institute of Coaching. He is also developing SagatiCoach, an AI-augmented coaching platform exploring the intersection of technology and human development.

Eric introduces us to a powerful concept he calls Ego-Myopia™—the leadership blind spot created by our reflexive need to be right, be liked, or be in control.

These tendencies aren’t necessarily character flaws. In fact, they can often be connected to the very strengths that helped a leader become successful. But when they operate unnoticed, they can influence decisions, relationships, culture, and ultimately organizational performance.

We explore why successful leaders can become increasingly vulnerable to blind spots, how power can change the quality of feedback executives receive, why our greatest strengths can become liabilities, and the critical difference between wanting to be right and wanting to get it right.

We also take the conversation into the age of artificial intelligence. As AI becomes increasingly capable of handling analysis, information, and recommendations, will human judgment and self-awareness become even more important? And what happens when increasingly powerful technology is placed in the hands of leaders who haven't recognized what is actually driving their decisions?

Eric Kaufman joins Rich and Maikel in this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT as we open our listeners eyes to the blindspots created by the need to be right, liked, or in control.
