Description
The cup in your hands turns dark almost before you notice, copper then deep red-brown, hiding the smallest thing inside. Among the bark and buds, one pale, ridged seed sits quietly, easily overlooked. It's the only thing in the cup that's also eaten as a vegetable, but here it's something else entirely. Three foods, one plant, never found together on the same shelf. What else gets treated as though its parts barely know each other?
Today's cup: Peacock Chai — Camellia sinensis, ginger, cloves, pepper berries, cinnamon, fennel, cardamom, black pepper, pink peppercorns, agave.
1 tsp, 200mL, 100°C, two minutes black or four with milk.
