Our Lady of Sorrows stood at the foot of the Cross and simply would not look away.

This feast honors the depth of Mary's suffering as Jesus's mother, from Simeon's warning that a sword would pierce her heart, all the way to Calvary, where she stood beneath the Cross to the very end. Because she knows real suffering, Catholics have brought their own sorrows to her for two thousand years.
