Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Beatrice Hair, educator, author, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for students and families, for an important discussion about bullying, education, self-confidence, and helping young people succeed academically and socially. Beatrice was the owner and director of the Salisbury Tutoring Academy and devoted much of her professional life to helping students who were struggling in school. The 'X' Zone guest archives list her appearance under the question “Can Tutoring Reduce Bullying?” Beatrice believed that academic difficulties could affect far more than a student's report card. Young people who struggle in the classroom may also experience frustration, embarrassment, diminished confidence, social isolation, or difficulty fitting in with their peers. One former student writing about his difficult high-school years specifically recalled turning to Beatrice, then Executive Director of the Salisbury Tutoring Academy, after struggling both academically and socially. During this thought-provoking conversation, Rob and Beatrice examine bullying from an educational perspective and consider whether improving academic skills and confidence can give vulnerable students additional tools for dealing with difficult social situations. Beatrice's educational work extended beyond tutoring: she authored H3LT: The Hair Three-Legged-Table Solution for Education, presenting tools for parents, teachers, and students. Wake Forest University identified her as a 1987 graduate and owner/director of the Salisbury Tutoring Academy franchise. Beatrice Hair passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 60, making this archived conversation an opportunity to remember an educator whose work was devoted to young people. Her obituary describes her as a published author whose work on ADHD received an endorsement from Senator Elizabeth Dole and notes that she received a Congressional Recognition Award from Congressman Howard Coble.
