Psalm 16: Finding Security When You’re Afraid of Loss

Psalm 16: Finding Security When You’re Afraid of Loss

Published 1 month ago
Description

Psalm 16 sermon on fear of loss, grief, and where your security actually comes from. Pastor Sam Sutter asks: What is the one thing you could lose and not know who you are anymore? You already know the answer.

Psalm 16 is a prayer for people who have figured out that the things we most want to keep are the things we have the least power to guarantee. We get into the land language David reaches for (portion, lot, boundary lines, inheritance) and why he says the LORD himself is his share, not just the one handing out shares.

Then Peter stands up at Pentecost, quotes this psalm, and points out that David died and Jesus didn’t stay dead. That is where Christian security actually comes from. Not a promise you will never lose anything. You will never lose the One who is holding you.
