September 14 | The Power of Repentance

September 14 | The Power of Repentance

Published 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Description

Today’s reading from Proverbs 19–21 and 2 Corinthians 7 invites us to consider the power of repentance and the way God uses correction to shape us over time. Both passages remind us that spiritual formation requires a willingness to listen, become honest about what needs to change, and allow God to redirect us.

In Proverbs, wisdom is closely connected with receiving instruction, accepting correction, and learning from what God is showing us. A wise life is not built on never getting things wrong. It is built on becoming the kind of person who can receive correction without constantly resisting it.

In 2 Corinthians 7, Paul explains the difference between simply feeling bad and experiencing godly sorrow that leads to repentance. The Corinthians did not remain stuck in guilt or shame. Their sorrow produced earnestness, concern, and a genuine desire to make things right. Their response shows that repentance is more than regret. It is a change of heart and direction.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on how we respond when God brings correction into our lives. They ask us to notice whether we become defensive, try to escape the discomfort, or stay open long enough for God to use that moment to change our thinking, reshape our hearts, and form us more deeply into the people He is calling us to become.
