A mother of five and a nurse, Shirley Conway is campaigning for major reform of Ireland’s special education system. Her two youngest children are twins with autism, and one also has an intellectual disability. Shirley says one of her sons has been unable to attend school for the past two weeks because of problems accessing the Home Tuition Grant. She is now calling for changes to home tuition, early intervention and the July Provision scheme. Shirley Conway joined Alan Morrissey to discuss her experience and why she believes the system urgently needs to change.
