Fossilized Mastodon Tooth Found in Creek | Wilmington News
Description
A geomorphologist stumbled upon a remarkably preserved Pacific mastodon tooth while working on a habitat restoration project in San Mateo County — complete with crown, root, and even root canal details. Though mastodon fossils aren’t unheard of, this find’s condition and local discovery make it a rare treasure. Scientists plan to date the tooth and create a 3D replica for public education, underscoring how protecting natural spaces not only helps wildlife but also uncovers our ancient past.
