Rookie Pitcher Shuts Down Opponents | Wilmington News
Description
Rookie pitcher Payton Tolle, sporting a bold mustache, delivered an immaculate inning—striking out three batters on nine pitches—with eight fastballs and one sinker, the only ball put in play a foul tip. He followed up with six shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing just four hits, leading the Red Sox to a 4-1 win. At just 23, Tolle now ranks second in Red Sox rookie strikeout history with 166 this season and even voiced his support for pitchers throwing more innings—a rare stance amid modern pitch limits. His dominant performance signals a bright future for Boston’s playoff push.
